MACBA – Musée d'art contemporain de Barcelone

Posters of the three chapters of “Tetuan, Tetuán, تطوان" designed by Sofia Fahli @gaouta_ (Casablanca) and silk-screen printed @taller57 (Barcelona).
The design of the posters makes reference to the infamous stamp series by Mariano Bertuchi, known as the painter of the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco, that depicted so-called folkloric scenes and the advances of colonial industrialization. Reversing the gaze towards the settler, the posters showcase two archival images and a photograph taken by the artist that refer to colonial symbols that still pervade the Spanish collective unconscious, while pointing to the issues examined in each chapter.
Chapter 1 (Barcelona): Transfer of "La Batalla de Tetuan" by Fortuny to the Museu de la Ciutadella, 28/03/1957, Pérez de Rozas, Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona.
Chapter 2 (Madrid): Otto Wunderlich, Cavalry of the Moorish Guard escorting Franco's car along the Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid, 04/01/1940, Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España, Madrid, Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte.
Chapter 3 (تطوان): Movie theater “Español”, Tétouan, Morocco.
